THE UNIVERSE IS NOT TRYING TO BURN ENERGY. IT IS TRYING TO CREATE MEANING.

For decades, physics has had a “bug.”

We measured complexity by how much energy a system consumes (Energy Rate Density). By that metric, a forest fire is more “evolved” than a human brain, and a hot, power-hungry GPU is more “complex” than a neuromorphic chip.

That is obviously wrong.

The universe doesn’t reward waste. Based on what I’ve now discovered (read report below), it appears to reward efficiency. It’s not rewarding higher entropy. It’s rewarding higher meaning.

I’ve spent the last few months deriving a new thermodynamic metric from first principles to understand the role of entropy in environmental intelligence. I call it Generalized Functional Efficiency (GFE).

GFE = Function / (Entropy—Mass)

When you apply this metric to the last 13.8 billion years, a startling truth emerges:

The Big Bang was Maximum Fire (infinite flow, but near-zero structure).

Stars are massive, inefficient engines.

Life is a phase transition’14 orders of magnitude more efficient than stars.

The Human Brain is the current biological apex’processing information with near-zero waste heat.

The “Efficiency Paradox” is resolved. We are not heading toward a future of massive energy burning and chaos. We are heading toward Cold Complexity and meaning.

The future of AI isn’t a 700W H100 GPU that runs hot. The future belongs to new forms of “Cold Compute.” Whether via neuromorphic, quantum, or architectures yet to be discovered, the objective is clear: we will surpass biology to approach the fundamental thermodynamic limits of the universe (the Landauer Limit).

This is the physics of Environmental Superintelligence. It creates a form of computation that is cleaner, quieter, colder, more powerful, and more “peaceful.”

Today’s high-energy chips are not a mistake. They are the necessary crucible. We are using the “fire” of current AI to solve the physics of the next era and design the sustainable mind of tomorrow.

True intelligence isn’t about brute force. It’s about extracting the maximum amount of meaning from the minimum amount of flow.

We are moving from the Era of Fire to the Era of Meaning.

Exciting days ahead of us.
