Humans are communicating with nature to protect it. We write laws for example.

Historically data transfer has been slow. For example, we write laws in English, but it then takes a lot of time and words in English to detail the protection, and then converting these words to bits so that our equipment can understand the English, and then gathering the resulting data back from nature as to the efficacy of the protection efforts (largely in the form of bits as well), and then converting this data back to numbers and to English so we can understand and communicate the results and make adjustments . It’s not fast. And yes it is inefficient. And yes lots gets lost in translation. And yes we aren’t sharing information yet on a data level where nature more fundamentally communicates (i.e. probability, quantum, qubits). But it is and was a start … and a very good start.
