I just published a new essay:?Reframing the Environmental Movement. The central argument is simple: the environmental movement has spent 50 years operating from a paradigm built in the 1960s and 70s … one that correctly identified human-caused damage, but quietly assumed that ?nature without us? is stable and safe.

That assumption is wrong.

Nature does need protection from humanity. But it also needs humanity to protect it from everything else: climate instability, mass extinction dynamics, asteroid risk, ecological collapse, and eventually even the physics of a changing star.

This reframes the role of the environmentalist.

Not just as a guardian or restrainer, but as a knowledge-accelerator … someone building the intelligence, tools, institutions, and technologies that let the biosphere become smarter about itself.

The environmental crisis is not a verdict on civilization.

It is a deadline.

And the right response to a deadline is not guilt.

It is to get to work.
