Earth has survived five mass extinctions.

None caused by humans.

All caused by the universe: asteroids, supervolcanoes, gamma-ray bursts … on a schedule that has never once cared what lived here.

The dinosaurs were not unfit.

They were undefended.

For the first time in four billion years, that changed.

We moved an asteroid off course in 2022.

We model climates. We track extinctions. We monitor watersheds from space.

We are the only thing in the history of life on this planet that has ever attempted to keep it alive.

But we have been doing it slowly.

With tools built for a world where knowledge moved at human speed.

That world is over.
